On August 28, 2022 Dr. Raj Paroda, a prominent scientist, founder and first chairman of the Global Agricultural Research Forum, celebrated his 80th birthday. Dr. Raj Paroda was the head of the ICARDA Regional Office in Tashkent in the period 2002-2007. He is well known in our region of Central Asia and the South Caucasus. On his initiative, the General Bank of Agricultural Crops was established in Uzbekistan. He contributed to the convergence of the NARC countries of the region with international agricultural research centers and institutes in the CGIAR AIRCA system. He initiated the opening of their representative offices at ICARDA in Tashkent. Led the CGIAR program on Sustainable development in the Central Asia and South Caucasus region. As the initiator, founder and first Executive Secretary of APAARI, he contributed to the creation, strengthening and CACAARI of our regional forum. Dr. Raj Paroda's work is well known for a number of his publications in the international agricultural research environment in the world. Starting his activity in India at the head of the Indian Agricultural Research Center, and then at the international centers of ICARDA and other CGIAR centers and especially at GFAR, his talent as a scientist - organizer of agricultural research was demonstrated. Thanks to his initiatives, perseverance and perseverance, the conferences of the School were organized in 2010 in Montpellier, France and in 2012 in Puntadelesta, Uruguay.
