On November 18-20, 2013, at the initiative of the Agricultural Center of Lomonosov Moscow State University, together with the World Bank and the UN FAO, a conference was held to integrate efforts to improve food security in the countries of the Eurasian region.
On November 18-20, 2013, at the initiative of the Agricultural Center of Lomonosov Moscow State University, together with the World Bank and the UN FAO, a conference was held to integrate efforts to improve food security in the countries of the Eurasian region. The conference was attended by more than 80 experts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Russian regions and representatives of international organizations.
The conference was attended and presented by the Executive Secretary of the Dr.Mark Holdernes (GFAR), ICARDA Regional Coordinator Dr. Joseph Turk and CACAARI Executive Secretary Dr. Alisher Tashmatov.
During the conference, it was decided to organize the Eurasian Network on Food Security on the basis of the MSU Agricultural Center, which will bring together experts in the socio-economic sphere and in the field of land and water resources use. The network will provide an opportunity to exchange views and assessments in the framework of electronic consultations, provide the latest materials and organize research projects. The most important task of the network will be distance learning in the field of food security in the framework of additional education programs according to the standards of the Moscow University. During the conference, special attention was paid to the creation of the Eurasian Soil Partnership within the framework of the UN FAO Global Soil Partnership Program. The regional partnership includes institutions from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
